RMI May 12th Update

Greetings to you from cool and damp Kitale, Kenya,
Today we are enjoying some very cool weather, following a very nice and much needed rainfall. For a couple of weeks it had only sprinkled a bit, but not enough rain to settle the dust. Last night, it rained very slowly all night long. Our shamba was in need of a good drink of water. The men from Kenya Seed have been watering everyday from the tap. I can only imagine what my water will be! I told Rita we may have the most expensive “free” produce in town. At any rate, the plants are all growing and looking very healthy. By the time our first team arrives one month from today, the shamba should be in full growth, not ready to harvest, but certainly looking good.
Speaking of our first team, Pastor Jason Morse and Jacob Steussey will arrive one month from today followed by my sister, Jeanne Mizell and my cousin, Pat Payne, on June 17th. Things are getting set in motion, as we anticipate many people coming for a time of ministry. This will be the largest number of people we have ever had (13 confirmed). We have not had a place that would accommodate more than a couple at a time. Now, we have lots of room and can host much larger groups.
Part of the preparation for hosting our guests is having beds made. Yesterday we ordered the first of 4 sets of bunk beds. The same man who made our living room furniture is making the beds. We have made a deposit on the mattresses and will pick them up after June 1st. Rita and I are excited about so many people who will make the sacrifice to make the trip and speak into the lives of these wonderful people. I can promise each of them, the sacrifice of time, money and inconvenience will be well-worth it. Their lives will never be the same.
We have been busy with ministry for the last 10 days. I mentioned about our going out to Kobos on Saturday, May 2nd. We have received some wonderful testimonies of many people being healed, many being encouraged and just a general sense of God ministering His goodness to so many. On Saturday, Nashon got a report that a lady who had attended the one-day meeting, had a baby boy shortly after the meeting and you guessed it, she named him Louie Self!! How cool is that?????? This little guy makes the 3rd baby boy named after me. My name will live on in infamy!
From Monday-Friday of last week I preached a lunch hour meeting in the downtown area of Kitale. I have preached at this particular lunch hour many times and have always been very well received and the messages have been timely. I preached a series of messages on grace and great revelation of the grace of God was imparted. I love seeing the “lights go on” when a particular word just hits a persons heart.
On Sunday last, our team ministered in one of our spiritual son’s church in Eldoret. Pastor Mike Bitok launched the church on the first Sunday of August 2008. When we ministered there last October, attendance was in the 70-75 range. On Sunday, the attendance was between125-130. Every seat in the place was taken. About 20 visitors attended, many of them indicating Now International Church would be their church home. Mike is one of the most gifted teachers of the Word I have ever met. He is wise beyond his years. He is so soft-spoken you have to sit on the edge of your chair to hear what he is saying. I must say, that is a pleasant change from the majority of African preachers who think both God and the people are deaf!!
On Wednesday, we go to another place in the bush called Maridadi. Following 2 preaching sessions, we will meet with the area pastors to discuss a meeting planned for the 3rd-4th of July. I was told last year when we were there for one day, that the last time a white missionary had been to the area was 1973. Even in a very rural area, the population is about 6,000 people. We believe we can have a very positive impact on the area. Begin, even now, to pray for that special time of meetings.
This is the week we leave for Kampala to minister in 2 conferences next week. Rita is excited about going to a new city and new country. The worst part of the whole trip is crossing the border, particularly with a vehicle. They require you leave the ORIGINAL title to the car. That is a very scary prospect. There is no filing system, your title is just thrown into a box and left until you claim it on the way out. I actually ended up with someone else’s title last year when coming back into Kenya . I plead the blood of Jesus over the title, I speak grace over it and even thrown in a few tongues to keep it safe until it is back in my hands!!
David has been working all week on the first month’s TV programs. He has developed a very nice introduction. I must say we are on a very large “learning curve.” I think we will all learn as we go and the program will improve with each month’s preparation. Pray for David as he sits in front of the computer for 8-9 hours every day. God has certainly graced him and he is doing what he loves. We may try to upload a small portion of some of the programs each month. I also, want to include a brief audio clip each month, just to greet you and allow you to hear our voices.
The planning for the launching of the Bible schools has come one giant step closer to becoming a reality. I should receive the funds today from Dr. Leon van Rooyen and Global Ministries and Relief to purchase the state of the art copier. Hopefully, it can be delivered before we leave the country on Saturday. We have our first informational meeting scheduled for June 2nd just to cast the vision and share the benefits of having an extension school in a local church. Dr. Leon is preparing a power-point to assist us in the presentation. He is also preparing the training video, which we will use in training those pastors and leaders who commit to having a school in their church. Pray for this very important project. It is Dr. Leon ’s vision to have 1,000,000, that’ight, 1 million disciples being trained in Africa and South America in 5 years. RMI figures very prominently in that vision.
Check out the picture Rita has attached of our nightwatchman. He has his bow and arrow for protection. Believe it or not, that is one of the primary weapons used in the rural areas of Kenya . It’s like the “wild West!
We bless you and speak grace to you. Thank you so much for your being a part of this ministry and helping us fulfill the vision God has put in our heart.
